Bainbridge Island does not love chains . . . the only Starbucks we have is the mini version in Safeway (which always has a line, I might add). I find Starbucks’ new plan to look like a hip, independent coffee shop very interesting from a marketing standpoint . . . around here, on our small island, the downtown association is always promoting buy local. With the down economy, we are hearing that phrase even more. I am sure we, here on Bainbridge, are not alone. Perhaps Starbucks’ goal, especially during this recession, is to look local all over the country. Listen to the full story on NPR below.
